Script writing Example for LAY ON THE TABLE AND TAKE FROM THE TABLE

A: Madam /Mr. President, I move that the motion "That the annual dinner dance be held under the stars at Riverfront Park."  be laid on the table.
B: Second!

Chair: Member A, for what purpose does the member wish to lay the pending motion on the table?

A: The Mayor arrived for his presentation and he has to rush to the airport soon.

Chair: It is moved and seconded that the main motion be laid on the table.

 (a) State the question on the motion to Lay on the table:

It is moved and seconded to lay on the table the main motion, "That the annual dinner dance be held under the stars at Riverfront Park." Are you ready for the question? [Pausing for response]

Lay on the table is not Debatable nor amendable and requires majority.

(b) Put the question on the motion to Lay on the table:

Are you ready for the question? [Pausing for response]

The question is on the motion to lay on the table the main motion, "That the annual dinner dance be held under the stars at Riverfront Park."

Those in favor of laying the main motion on the table, say aye. [Pausing for response]

Those opposed, say no. [Pausing for response]

(c) Announce results

The ayes have it, and the motion is adopted. The main motion is laid on the table.

(d) Announce the business that follows

The next item of business is <The next item of business OR the Mayor present (speak)>

<Assume the Mayor (speaker) has finished his speech>

Member C: I move to take from the table the motion <That the annual dinner dance be held under the stars at Riverfront Park.">
Member D: Second
<Take from the table is not debatable, not amendable, requires second and requires Majority vote>

Chair: it is moved and seconded to take from the table the motion on the <That the annual dinner dance be held under the stars at Riverfront Park.">

Those in the favor of the taking from the table the motion <That the annual dinner dance be held under the stars at Riverfront Park."> say aye, <Pause>
Those opposed say no <pause>

The ayes have it and the motion is adopted.

The question is now on the main motion "That the annual dinner dance be held under the stars at Riverfront Park."
