Why Write a Script?
Even the most experienced presiding officers know that having a meeting script makes them more comfortable and confident. A script coordinated with the meeting agenda helps ensure that essential business items are remembered and brought before the assembly for action at the proper time. It has been said, "It is the parliamentarian's role to make the president look good". Having a script with all the proper terms and wording does help achieve that goal. With this meeting tool, a very inexperienced presiding officer can confidently conduct a meeting. One was heard to say, "A cheat sheet—what a great idea:' The presiding officer can focus on the issue before the assembly instead of what should be said next.

Who is the scriptwriting for?
A script is written primarily for the presiding officer so business items will be handled in the proper order, the proper parliamentary procedure will be followed, and proper terminology will be used.
